Andrean Clubs & Organizations

The Academic Super Bowl team consists of 5 separate teams:

*Math; *Science; *English Literature; *Social Studies; *Fine Arts

A sixth team, Interdisciplinary, is formed from members of the five single discipline teams. Teams consist of no more than five members each, and students can participate in no more than two teams; three teams if a student is selected to compete on the Interdisciplinary squad. Each team is responsible for becoming experts on a topic for their particular academic discipline. Outside reading and study are required. Topics are pre-determined for all schools in the state by the Academic Competitions Division of the Indiana Association of School Principals.

Andrean Student Ambassadors is an organization of students who represent Andrean at school hospitality functions, grade school visits, and are hosts for visitors. They are called on for many occasions throughout the school year. Applications to be a student ambassador are available at the beginning of the school year through the Admissions Office during a call out in September. Applicants are asked to write a short essay on their Andrean experience that is subject to faculty approval. Public speaking is a requirement for many of the ambassador assignments. Parental permission to leave campus is necessary.

Quiz Bowl is “Jeopardy” for high schoolers and features an electronic buzzer lockout system. Successful team members combine broad knowledge with fast fingers. Try-outs occur in early November. The competition season runs from mid-December through mid-March.  State & National tournaments follow.

Andrean Theatre Company gives students the opportunity to participate in all aspects of a theater production, from acting and publicity to set construction, stage management, and more. Each year, the Theatre Company produces several shows, including a full-length play and a musical.

The International Thespian Society is an organization for students who display great interest in theatre. Students must be invited to join and will receive an invitation once certain criteria are met. Members of the Thespian Society will have the opportunity to attend conferences, contests, and receive college scholarships.

Students have the opportunity to gain a greater appreciation for art through further education, studio time, speakers, and field trips.

Campus Ministry is responsible for building up the faith and spiritual life of every member of the Andrean family. Special events include monthly and twice-weekly masses, opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, special prayer services, day-long underclass faith experiences, the senior Kairos retreat program, the International Rosary, community service projects, presentations, and faith-building workshops for faculty, staff, and parents.

Each class has four elected officers. Students in each class are encouraged to get involved in their class activities. See your class moderator for additional information.

This group produces the school yearbook. Students take pictures, write copy and help to organize the book’s layout.

As members of the multicultural club, we pledge to interact as individual parts of a unified body to take full advantage of our multicultural existence. We also pledge to be positive examples in our homes, schools, and neighborhoods. We believe that having knowledge of ourselves, being proud of who we are, and sharing this knowledge with our classmates will create a better school.

The National Honor Society is a service organization for juniors and seniors. Members are selected based on their scholarship, service, character, and leadership. Members must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA and be active in school activities, service or religious organizations as well as school activities, showing leadership and character in the classroom. Some of our chapter activities include donating to food pantries, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, raising funds for the Franciscan Breast Care Center, and peer tutoring.  Special Outings or Field Trips: National Honor Society members coordinate a tutoring program for Andrean students. Members choose additional individual and group projects each year.

Additional Comments: Prospective National Honor Society members should be involved in various service activities in their school, parish, or local community to augment their resumes for membership.

Moderator: Mrs. Noble Urchell

This society is open to any sophomore, junior, or senior in good standing, a “B” overall average and a minimum of 3.0 in Spanish. Members are required to perform service to the Hispanic Population and promote Spanish Language and Culture here in Andrean and elsewhere. Members tutor the underclassmen in Spanish, promote the International Rosary and the Feast Day Mass of Our Lady of Guadalupe. They also tutor in the community.

Spell Bowl is a team spelling bee with written words. Ten spellers spell out nine words each for a potential 90 point perfect score. All teams spell the same words. Try-outs are held at the beginning of the school year.

The Andrean Student Council provides a means by which students can address school-related issues. Students are trained in good citizenship and leadership through school and community activities. The student council promotes school spirit by coordinating all homecoming activities as well as arranging Freshman Orientation. It also sponsors the Winter Formal and Armageddon. The student council is the avenue that allows the student body to have special days, i.e. Andrean wear, dress-up, etc.

YARC (Young Adults Really Care). Started by Sister Paul in 1970, YARC aims to spread joy and inclusivity by hosting holiday parties for people with special needs. These parties are held during Halloween, Christmas, and Easter.

During these events, our wonderful Andrean students will be there to assist guests with arts and crafts and to share a delightful meal together. On Halloween, our guests will have the opportunity to go trick-or-treating, while during Christmas, a special visit from Santa Claus will surely bring smiles to everyone's faces. And of course, during Easter, we will organize an exciting egg hunt and celebrate the joyous week.
Together, we can create a truly inclusive and compassionate community.
